Alan Journey
Born into a family with a strong connection to writing, Alan Arumugam developed an early passion for poetry, literature, and storytelling. From a young age, he immersed himself in reading, writing, and exploring different forms of creative expression—an early foundation that would eventually shape his path as a filmmaker.
Over the years, Alan has developed a deep appreciation for realistic, character-driven storytelling with emotional, cultural, and historical depth. As a writer-director, his creative vision focuses on developing commercially engaging films for global audiences, while embracing fresh cinematic approaches and bringing lesser-known stories and historical narratives to the screen.
Through his work, Alan aims not only to create meaningful and visually compelling cinema, but also to contribute positively to the wider creative community and inspire the next generation of filmmakers to pursue their own voices and stories.
YSA Screen Media
Alan Arumugam leads YSA Screen Media, an Australia-based creative studio dedicated to developing bold, distinctive, and internationally driven cinema. The studio focuses on original stories with strong emotional resonance, compelling characters, and cinematic ambition—combining immersive storytelling with clear commercial potential for audiences worldwide.
Alan made his feature directorial debut with the supernatural thriller Wrath of Souls (2020), which earned multiple awards and selections at international film festivals. His work reflects a commitment to distinctive genre storytelling while exploring themes of human resilience, culture, history, and the complexities of the human experience.
Alan is currently advancing ROCADA, a high-octane international action thriller, alongside a diverse slate of projects including TRENCHSCAPE, THE NINE KNIGHTS, and THE FORGOTTEN 1943. Collectively, these projects reflect his ambition to develop original, visually compelling cinema that bridges cultures, genres, and historical periods for a global audience.
