ALAN'S JOURNEY

Born into a family of writers, Ilanthirayan (Alan) developed a deep appreciation for poetry and storytelling from a young age, using them as a means to explore imagination and escape reality. He spent countless hours in libraries, immersing himself in literature and crafting his own stories. This early passion evolved into a serious pursuit as he began documenting personal experiences through essays and short stories—work that eventually garnered him numerous accolades, including a prestigious National Award for writing.

Dedicated to mastering the art of directing, Alan invested years studying world cinema and drawing inspiration from European film, particularly the works of auteurs like Michael Haneke and Akira Kurosawa. His creative voice is grounded in realism, with a strong emphasis on character-driven narratives that carry emotional depth and cultural resonance.

Alan aims to craft commercially successful films that appeal to international audiences, while
integrating innovative filmmaking techniques and technologies. His vision as a director includes
telling compelling fictional stories as well as shedding light on overlooked historical events,
civilisations, and atrocities—projects that aim to inform, provoke thought, and shift global perspectives.

Passionate about giving back, Alan actively supports charitable initiatives and community-based
programs. He is committed to being a positive role model for future generations of filmmakers and
storytellers.

YSA Screen Media & Upcoming Projects

Alan leads his creative work through YSA Screen Media, an Australia-based studio committed to producing bold, genre-defying international films. The studio's mission is to craft original,
emotionally resonant stories that connect with global audiences across diverse cultural and linguistic
landscapes. YSA Screen Media takes pride in developing distinct, immersive narratives that explore universal themes through fresh, unconventional perspectives, while delivering strong commercial
appeal and global box office potential.
In 2020, Alan completed his debut feature, the supernatural thriller AIYAI: Wrathful Soul, which
received multiple awards and international film festival selections. Building on this success, he is
now in pre-production for his next major feature, the high-octane action thriller ROCADA
(2024/2025)
Alan’s upcoming directorial slate includes:
 TRENCHSCAPE 1939 (2025–2026)
 THE NINE KNIGHTS (2026–2027)
 THE FORGOTTEN 1943 (2028–2029)
These projects span a range of genres and historical contexts, reflecting his growing ambition to craft stories that are both cinematic and socially relevant.
As Alan puts it:
“In the pursuit of my filmmaking quest, I’ve come to appreciate the value of a life deeply observed—through understanding human nature, exploring life’s eccentricities, and honouring the natural world. I aim to explore diverse genres and experiment with storytelling in ways that forge meaningful connections with audiences and stir their imaginations to entirely new levels.”
